Bar George, Le Mount Stephen Montreal

Located in downtown Montreal, the historic hotel Le Mount Stephen is home to the famous restaurant Bar George. The atmosphere and decor were a testament to the rave reviews and, for a foodie like me, a dream.

Serving a Scottish and British-influenced menu, the Bar George Brunch menu stands out for its unique food elegance and style. I instantly fell in love with the 19th-century decor and the evident influence of Lord George Stephen's style.

OUR HISTORY

Le Mount Stephen is located in an opulent mansion that once belonged to Lord George Stephen and was home to the exclusive Mount Stephen Club. Great care has been taken to preserve this historic Quebec hotel, which dates back to 1880 and has been the site of many important moments in Canada’s history.

PRIVATE DINING

Ideal for breakfast meetings, stately dinners, and intimate celebrations, Bar George offers a selection of striking private dining rooms, tucked away upstairs in the mansion’s former quarters and downstairs spaces.

Exhibiting the grandeur and opulence of a time passed, the rooms have been revitalized with stylish furnishings that complement the ornate heritage details. Intricate wood paneling, grand fireplaces, and sublime stained glass windows afford a sense of luxury, unlike any other space in the city.

Brunch Menu

During my visit to Bar George, I was eager to order from their brunch menu, as each dish looked amazing. The menu showcased the British and Canadian ties to Sir George Stephen.

My go-to drink is always a vanilla latte, and I just had to try theirs. I was very impressed by the latte from Bar George; the taste was just right. The teacup and saucer added to the charm, and I highly recommend this drink as they nailed it.

Duck Fat Potatoes ( side dish ) $5.00

This was my first time trying duck-fat potatoes. I was not sure what to expect, but surprisingly, they were good. Picture eating warm, salted duck, but in potato form. That is the best way I can describe this dish. I cannot say that I will try it again, but I appreciate the flavors.

These duck-fat potatoes are seasoned and fried to perfection. To top it off, they were smothered in duck fat and garnished. They were tasty, but not my favorite item on the menu.

Waffles ($18): berries, maple syrup, almonds, and brioche ice cream

The price for this waffle may seem a little steep, but let me tell you, it was worth it. This waffle was garnished with berries, caramelized almonds, and brioche ice cream. Each bite was memorable. Nothing was spared when making this waffle, as it was not greasy or overcooked.

Brioche ice cream

Overall, I give Bar George a 9.5/10. I was impressed by the decor, food, and service. The menu was simple yet sophisticated. I enjoyed brunch, and I am looking forward to trying their lunch and dinner menus.
