La Toxica Chinatown Montreal
If you're looking for amazing Mexican food in Montreal, look no further. La Toxica is a local favorite, where you can enjoy the best guacamole, tacos, quesadillas, and more. With several locations around Montreal, La Toxia is a great place for lunch or dinner. I recently visited the location in Montreal's Chinatown for lunch.
This location is relatively new, and they are located at 1059 St. Laurent Blvd. They are only 5 minutes away from Metro Station Place d'Armes and are very easy to locate. Check out my honest review and detailed visit to La Toxica below.
Decor
The decor at La Toxica is unique. The artistry that is displayed on the walls and ceiling is very eye-catching. The space at this location can easily seat large groups, so hosting a party should be no problem.
It is very evident that La Toxica put a lot of effort into the decor, and it shows. I enjoyed the attention to detail and the work put into the custom paintings and murals.
Menu and Ordering
The menu is quite straightforward; prices are displayed for all items along with the servings and ingredients. La Toxica serves a variety of appetizers, main dishes, desserts, and drinks.
For my appetizer, I ordered the guacamole for $8. The portion was enough to feed two people with leftovers. This is one of the best guacamoles that I have had in a long time. The chips were nice and crispy, and the ingredients were very fresh.
For my entree, I ordered the Tacos Birria (4) with shredded chicken and cheese for a cost of $16. These tacos were a solid 9/10. The shell used was not too soft or hard. The sauce was nice and palatable, and the flavor was through the roof.
The only issue with this dish is that it came with no sides (rice, salad, or condiments). They all had to be purchased at an additional cost. Seeing that this dish was a little pricey, a small side dish should have been included.

Drinks and Dessert
This was my first time visiting La Toxica, so to get the full experience, I ordered the Jarrito from their drink menu. I am a huge fan of mango, so that was the flavor I got. This drink was surprisingly refreshing and not too sweet. The cost of this drink was $3.50.
The best part of any meal for me is the dessert. I ended up ordering the churros for $8. The serving was three pieces, and they were quite small. I was a little disappointed, as they were extremely sweet due to being drenched in condensed milk. These were not the best churros that I have had, not even close to the churros that I had from my visit to Hiccups & Churroholic.
I want to be honest and say that they were at most a 3/10 due to the presentation and taste. Given that the portion was small, the price should be nowhere near $8.
Final review
My rating for La Toxica is a 6/10. This can change in the future if I try a different location. The best part of the visit was the decor, tacos, and drinks. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and they truly did assist with the many questions that I had regarding my meal.
What disappointed me was the cleanliness of the tables. The location in Chinatown, Montreal, features black tablecloths. When I sat down for lunch, they were very unclean, with many stains and crumbs. I am not a boogie person, but when sitting to have a meal that I am paying for, cleanliness is very important to me. I was also not a fan of the churros, as I did not like that they were drenched in condensed milk. I think to better this dish, the condensed milk should come on the side along with another option such as melted chocolate or ice cream.
The great thing about La Toxica is that they have a few locations around Montreal; checking a different location will most likely bring a different experience.
