Avesta, Turkish Restaurant, Downtown Montreal

Avesta, Turkish Restaurant, Downtown Montreal

If you are on the hunt for amazing Turkish food, then Avesta is the place to be. Avesta is a cozy restaurant located in the heart of downtown Montreal at 2077 Saint-Catherine St. W. and only a 5-minute walk from Metro Guy Concordia. This restaurant has it all: great food, amazing staff, and wonderful decor.

Since it's opening, Avesta has been a huge hit and favourite amongst locals. This is the place to be for homemade comfort food that leaves you feeling fulfilled and wanting more. I am excited to share my visit with you. Check out what I ordered below. and comment on your favourite dish from Avesta.

Unpretentious, pillow-filled Turkish eatery serving classic stews, savory crepes, and varied mezes.
— Avesta

Upon arrival, the fresh smell of handmade flatbread fills the air. In the window of Avesta, an employee makes this daily. This flatbread is served with many of the dishes that are on the menu.

*Side Note* This was by far the freshest flatbread that I had; it was nice and soft, and it was a perfect addition to the meals and appetizers that were ordered.

  • 1 ¼ cups warm water 105-110˚F

2 ¼ teaspoons active dried yeast 1 packet

    1 tablespoon sugar

    ¾ cup Greek-style yogurt

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

    2 teaspoons kosher salt

    3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

¼ cup finely chopped flat-leaf parsley

Decor and Menu

The decor at Avesta is very cozy; the lighting, table furnishings, and general space feel inviting. The menu is clear, and many of the dishes have pictures to accompany them. The staff was also very helpful with any questions I had regarding the ingredients and sauces.

For my appetizer, I ordered the hummus. This dish was perfect; the hummus was super tasty and very creamy. The best part of it was the hot, fresh homemade flatbread that came with it. Overall, I give this dish a solid 10/10.

Hummus: $10, chickpea puree, lemon, garlic, and olive oil

Tuvuk Lavash: $20

Chicken sandwich, grilled vegetables, and green salad

For my entree, I ordered the Tuvuk Lavash; this was hands down the best chicken wrap that I have ever tried. The bread was soft and fluffy, the chicken was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was amazing. I highly recommend this dish to anyone experiencing Avesta. The cost was a little high at $20, but it was worth it.

This dish also comes with a green salad. Avesta provides the option to have it with or without dressing.

Final review

I highly recommend the food at Avesta to anyone. The pricing is fair, but not the cheapest. Even though I liked the decor, it was not the best that I have seen at a restaurant. The service was very good, and I thoroughly enjoyed the fresh flatbread that is made daily. I give Avesta a solid 8/10, mostly because of the freshness of the dishes. I also like that they are open late on the weekends and can accommodate a large group. Check them out today and visit their official website for pricing, hours, menu and more.
